A Christmas raffle by Burnham-On-Sea Scouts has raised hundreds of pounds for an international disaster relief charity.

£500 was raised for Shelterbox by the youngsters, who sold hundreds of raffle tickets for cash prizes and meals in local restaurants.

The group has raised enough money to purchase an entire Shelterbox to be used in countries requiring emergency aid.

The draw, made by Shelterbox’s Clive Morris at the Burnham Beavers Christmas party, was followed by visit by Father Christmas. It comes after several fundraising projects in recent months.

Beaver Leader Mandy Williams told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Way back in January when Haiti suffered their earthquake I was asked by a Beaver how we could help the families who have lost their relatives.”

“Shelterbox were offering the scouting movement a wonderful programme to follow and we chose to take on this challenge.”

Shelterbox responds to natural and manmade disasters worldwide, delivering emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disasters worldwide.
