Snow continues to cause disruption in Burnham-On-Sea

Wintry weather continued to cause disruption across Burnham-On-Sea on Thursday (January 7th), with schools closed and untreated roads and pavements being in a treacherous condition.

Several inches of heavy snowfall blanketed the area and with temperatures dipping to minus 7 degrees Centigrade overnight in Burnham, there was no sign of a thaw.

The conditions were welcomed by local schoolchildren, who had a second day off school. Temperatures were predicted to struggle to rise only a few degrees above zero, with a maximum temperature of 2°C.

Bus and postal services in the town have been disrupted, but district and county council workers have battled to grit and clear main routes.

Patrick Barber took the superb shot above of Burnham beach in the snow, while Maurice Hunt snapped Apex Park in the weather. Ruth Anderson sent us the photo of their Burnham igloo below.
