Burnham-On-Sea gets a blanket of snow… with more to come

-

A blanket of snow covered the Burnham-On-Sea area today (Friday) with more forecast for this weekend.

Around two inches of the white stuff had fallen by Friday evening, creating these wintry scenes around the town as captured by Burnham-On-Sea.com readers.

The Met Office predicts the cold snap will leave the town shivering right up to Christmas.

A severe weather warning has been issued by the Met Office for further snow in the Burnham area on Friday evening and on Saturday.

“A band of heavy snow will move northeastwards across England and Wales during Saturday. 5-10 cm of snow is expected widely, with the possibility of 20-25 cm accumulating in places.”

Several local schools closed early for the Christmas holidays due to the wintry weather, including East Brent Church of England First School, which shut at 11.15am.

Most sports matches over the weekend have been postponed. And Burnham Fire Brigade has cancelled a promotional car safety event due to take place at several Burnham supermarkets on Sunday.
