Last chance to enter Burnham’s Stert Island Swim

-

The entry period for the popular event began earlier this year and around 10 places are now available.

The unique 2,400m race will this year take place on July 18th, starting at mid-day. The participants will swim from Burnham beach to Stert Island and back in front of large crowds of watching spectators along The Esplanade.

Organiser Sara Hudghton of West Country Triathletes told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There has been a lot of interest from the swimmers again this year and we now just a dozen places to fill by July 5th when entries close.”

“We’re hoping that good weather will bring out a large crowd of onlookers.”

Entry forms are available online here. The event is being supported by the Town Council, BARB, the RNLI, Natural England, Taunton Canoe Club and St John Ambulance.

West Country Tri-Athletes took over the organisation of the annual summer event in February 2008 after Sedgemoor District Council said it could no longer afford to run it.
