High spring tide and gales batter Burnham-On-Sea's seafront

One of the highest tides of the year combined with gale-force winds to give Burnham-On-Sea's seafront a battering on Tuesday evening (March 30th).

These were the scenes along The Esplanade when the 11.7m Spring tide reached its peak just after 7pm, sending spray over the sea wall in several places.

The Environment Agency shut the town's flood gates at the top of the jetty, at the Sailing Club, and at Maddock's Slade as a normal precaution and several teams of staff monitor the conditions develop from the seafront.

Earlier, the Met Office had issued a warning of gales along exposed coastlines across the south west.
