Young Burnham-On-Sea tennis players celebrate success

-

Young tennis players at Burnham-On-Sea’s Avenue Tennis Club have been celebrating success this week.

Megan Rundle travelled to Taunton where she confidently won all her round robin matches against the girls in the Tony Pryce Series tournament.

Head Coach Vinny Duddy said: “With this being her second win in five tournaments, Megan’s confidence is growing and she is looking forward to competing in more competitions over the winter months.”

Harry Burrow also competed at Taunton and won three and lost one game, only losing 10-7 to the eventual winner and narrowly missing out on a semi final spot.

The following day he travelled to Coombe Dingle in Bristol where 18 players entered and Harry comfortably won his five group games to top the group and win his medal.

Vinny added: “This is great for our tennis club and for the youngsters who are really keen to continue competing, but it must be remembered that one of the main reasons that these youngsters are doing so well is the effort and support shown by their parents which I think is one of the main criteria for success at this early age.”

Vinny also thanked Geoff Thorne, owner of Jester Prints, in Highbridge for kindly sponsoring the Avenue Mini Red Academy with Team Hoodies which have gone down well with the juniors.

The club will be holding its Family Xmas Lunch on Sunday 5th December, a Junior Christmas Disco and Party on 17th December, followed by Chairman’s Mince Pies on 19th December, a Boxing Day Social Tennis Tournament on 26th December and a New Year’s Eve Family Disco on 31st December.
