Aspiring Burnham-On-Sea youngsters shadow MP for a week

-

Two budding politicians of the future have been getting a taste of life as an MP by shadowing Burnham-On-Sea’s Member of Parliament in London and at constituency meetings over the past week.

King Alfred School sixth formers Charlie Feltham and Emily Sanders have spent five days in London, visiting the House of Commons and House of Lords, and also accompanying Burnham’s MP Tessa Munt at several constituency meetings.

Charlie told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re both very interested in politics and were keen to experience Tessa’s day-to-day work.”

“It’s been a very busy and absolutely amazing week. To sit in the House of Commons during Prime Minister’s Questions and see the famous faces debating was incredible.”

“We also spent time in the House of Lords, where we listened to Lord Alan Sugar, met some of the Commons researchers, and sat in on a very interesting debate about proposed new academy schools.”

“Emily and I also visited several constituency meetings which really showed how Tessa is helping people with real-life problems.”

Tessa said she first met the youngsters during a general election hustings meeting earlier this year, when they had showed their interest in her work. “I’m delighted that they enjoyed the week with me – they have been a pleasure to be with,” she said.
