Burnham’s new MP records interview for Sounds and Voices service

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s newly-elected MP Tessa Munt was in town on Friday (28th May) to record an interview to be broadcast on the Sounds and Voices audio news service.

The new Liberal Democrat MP visited the group’s studios in the Old Courthouse in Jaycroft Road, Burnham, as pictured here.

The interview was not about her politics but what motivates her, how she was inspired to become involved in politics, and the day-to-day life of a new MP.

She told interviewer, Tony Deahl, that she decided in her sixth form school years that this is what she wanted to do after several MPs came to talk to students.

She added that she was also “inspired and encouraged” by her grandfather who was an MP in East Africa and told her that nothing is impossible and that she had the potential to pursue her dream.

Tessa talked of her education and about her breadth of experience in the hotel business and as a parliamentary candidate in Suffolk before she returned to live in the West Country.

Interviewer Tony Deahl told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Tessa exuded enthusiasm for her new job as an MP and said that she felt very privileged to be in a position to be able to help her constituents but that the job bore a heavy responsibility as so many people had put their trust in her. She said that she found it difficult to put into words how excited she is about her future.”

During her visit, Tessa volunteered to add her name to the list of those who read for Talking Newspapers.

The Sounds and Voices memory sticks are produced fortnightly and feature content from Burnham-On-Sea.com.

They are distributed to blind and partially sighted people in the Burnham-On-Sea, Highbridge and Cheddar areas. This is a free service and all the equipment is loaned free of charge to listeners.

Anyone who would like to receive the Talking Newspaper, or knows somebody who would benefit from being kept in touch with local news, please contact Joyce Dunbavan on 01278 783583. Sounds and Voices is also keen to hear from any care homes whose residents would benefit from this service.
