Thaw brings burst pipes and flooding in Burnham-On-Sea area

-

A rise in temperatures has caused flooding after a number of water pipes burst in the Burnham-On-Sea area this week.

Burnham’s town fountain in Pier Street is among the structures to be affected, with water flowing out across surrounding pavements and streets, as pictured here. This added to the slippery ice and slush that pedestrians had to negotiate.

Town Council Clerk Eileen Shaw told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Monday: “Bristol Water has been contacted and the water supply has been turned off while we assess the damage.”

Burst pipes have caused flooding in other areas too, keeping emergency services busy.

A Burnham fire crew was called out at 5am on Monday (December 27th) to deal with a burst pipe at a property on The Esplanade.

Temperatures in Burnham rose to five degrees Centigrade on Monday, their mildest for over a week.
