Defence Secretary Tom King visited Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday
(April 24th) when he joined David Heathcoat-Amory for an election
King, who was MP for Bridgwater from 1970 until 2001, gave his
support to Mr Heathcoat-Amory during his visit to the town.
duo met residents and business owners along the town's High Street,
discussed regeneration plans for the town in the wake of the recent
£159,000 funding boost, and also made a visit to the
seafront headquarters of BARB to see the town's two rescue hovercrafts.
pair also visited several businesses along Burnham High Street,
including Roly's Fudge, Julians Gift Shop, the Newquay Pasty Company
shop and Seafoods fishmongers.
King and Mr Heathcoat-Amory met Alex Turco and John Edwards of
Burnham's Civic Pride group to hear about the latest plans to
regenerate the High Street.
MP said: "I am very pleased that the South West Regeneration
Development Agency has sensibly given Burnham compensation and
am looking forward to seeing the regeneration plans moving forward."
pair also visited BARB, where they heard about the ongoing fundraising
campaign to raise £60,000 for a new hovercraft.
Heathcoat-Amory recently donated £1,000 towards the campaign.
King held the posts of Employment Secretary and Secretary of State
for Northern Ireland, and he also served as Defence Secretary
under Prime Minister John Major during the Gulf War in 1991.
King told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "David is an excellent MP for
this area who has done a lot for businesses and groups in this
town. I am very happy to give my support to him."
other candidates standing in May's election in the Wells constituency
are the Liberal Democrats' Tessa Munt, Labour's Andy Merryfield,
UKIP's Jake Baynes, the British National Party's Richard Boyce
and the Green Party's Chris Briton.
