M5 tourist centre near Burnham named ninth best in England

-

Praise has been showered on the tourist information centre based at Sedgemoor Services on the M5 motorway near Burnham-On-Sea, after it scooped three prestigious awards.

The centre, run by Somerset County Council, has been ranked ninth out of 302 Tourist Information Centres following a mystery shopper visit organised by Visit England.

In addition, the centre achieved a Green Tourism Business Scheme bronze award, which recognised the team’s environmental policies and promotion of sustainable tourism in Somerset. The centre was also a finalist in the ‘2009-2010 Tourism Excellence Awards’.

Mark Alley, Centre Manager, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are incredibly proud to represent Somerset. These achievements are a credit to all of the centre staff, the vital support of Somerset County Council and our colleagues at County Hall, who have all worked tremendously hard in the transformation of the centre.”

“The support from the tourism trade has been fantastic, and without their ongoing support we wouldn’t be able to continue our development and aim higher in all three awards next year.”

The news comes as a meeting is to be held next week regarding the furture of Burnham’s seafront tourist information centre – as first reported here.
