Tourism bosses take to the road to promote Burnham area in Wales

-

Local tourism bosses have hit the road to promote the Burnham-On-Sea area as a holiday destination in South Wales.

The first Somerset Tourism Association promotional tour of 2010 was held last week and saw the team, pictured here, visiting Asda and Tesco stores around Cardiff and Swansea.

Among those supporting the tour were staff from Pontins and Brean Leisure Park.

Mike Barsby of Brean Leisure Park told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “5,000 Somerset holiday information packs were handed out to shoppers and we received a very warm welcome from Welsh families.”

“Many people I spoke with had holidayed in Somerset in the past and loved the area. Somerset attractions and seaside towns such as Burnham-On-Sea are becoming increasingly popular for day trips, as Cardiff is only an hour or so drive away.”

“Tourism is vitally important to the economy of our county, creating around 26,000 jobs and £960 million.”

“Promotional initiatives, such as the Wales tour, play a major role in encouraging more people to holiday in our lovely county.”

Similar promotional tours will be taking place over the next few weeks in the home counties and the Midlands.
