120 athletes complete 2010 Burnham-On-Sea Spring Triathlon

Over 120 athletes took part in Burnham-On-Sea's Spring Triathlon on Sunday morning (April 25th).

The popular 'Super Sprint Triathlon', organised by Burnham Swim and Sports Academy, involved the competitors swimming 250m (10 lengths of the pool), cycling 10km and running 2.5km along the beach and Esplanade.

The event was won by Wies Wollants from Bristol in a fast time of 31 minutes, 37 seconds. Second was John Mason from North Somerset (32:04), while third was Andy Denny from Weston (32:18) and fourth was Richard Phillips of Bristol (33:28).

The fastest local competitor to finish the event was Matthew Cooke from West Country Triathletes in a time of 33 minutes and 47 seconds. A list of the full results is available here.

The whole of The Esplanade and Seaview Road was closed to traffic during the event between 6am and 9am.

Organiser Martin Rogers told "The event was a great success and we had strong support from entrants across the West Country."

Burnham-On-Sea's summer triathlon will be held in June.
