Burnham's Tuckers Garage site will be turned into 27 new flats

The site of Burnham-On-Sea's former Tucker's Garage will be converted into two blocks of 27 flats, it was decided by a group of district councillors on Tuesday (April 13th).

Despite some concerns about traffic issues, Sedgemoor's Development Control Committee gave a green light to the new complex in Victoria Street, pictured here.

Town councillor Pauline Pollard told the meeting that the Town Council opposes the scheme since it feels the proposed 12-space car park would be too small, while other councillors also aired concerns about traffic congestion in the area.

Cllr Bob Filmer told afterwards: "There was some discussion among councillors about potential traffic problems, but the County Council's highways department did not feel these would be significant enough to halt development."

The planning committee is to see whether the site's developer, Abracore, would be willing to double its grant to the district council for off-site provision of affordable housing from £75,000 to £150,000.
