Three people have been arrested by police after a night of vandalism following Burnham-On-Sea’s fireworks on Sunday night (November 7th).
A group of youths smashed wooden tables and chairs outside The Reed’s Arms, then used them to break the windows of several nearby businesses.
Glass was smashed at Michaels Bar on The Esplanade plus Fortes and Books and Puzzles in nearby Pier Street.
Inspector Roger Tolley told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “An incident occurred at Michael’s Bar and the people who left then caused damage at several nearby businesses.”
He confirmed that three people had been arrested and were held in custody overnight. “Our enquiries are ongoing and I would not rule out further arrests.”
Jo Duckett of Books and Puzzles told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It wasn’t a good night for us – our repair bill will be approximately £400. It’s the second time this has happened this year.”
And Mark Green of Fortes added: “It’s very annoying this has happened after such a wonderful fireworks display.”
The incident marred an otherwise perfect evening, during which thousands of spectators filled the seafront to watch a stunning fireworks display.
