Mystery Highbridge punter could win £20,000 from X-Factor bet

-

A fan of ITV’s X-Factor has stunned staff at this Highbridge bookmakers shop by putting a £1,000 bet on a twice-failed contestant to win the show.

The anonymous punter placed his wager at the town’s William Hill branch in Market Street.

With odds of 20/1, the man stands to win a huge £20,000 if Manchester singer Marlon McKenzie can win the whole series.

The fan clearly believes that Mr McKenzie will go all the way, having impressed the panel of celebrity judges including Simon Cowell.

William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Thursday: “Staff in our Highbridge shop were stunned when the man walked in this week and put such a large sum on Marlon McKenzie to win.”

“They have never seen the man in the shop before, so it’s possible that he’s from out of the area and was just travelling through, or is a local person that rarely bets.”

“We are all watching the programme with interest to see whether Marlon – and the gambler – win!”
