Crowds flock to Burnham-On-Sea's Youthfest

Crowds
of young people from the Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge area flocked
to the town's annual youth festival today on Sunday (July 4th).
Overseen
by Burnham's Youth Town Council in association with Burnham Lions,
the event included a wide range of entertainment and displays
for youngsters.
The
festival included live music throughout the afternoon from Burnham
bands and musicians, including Busy Backgrounds and Ashley Matthews.
The
event - which was officially opened by Burnham's Mayor and Mayoress
Michael and Maria Clarke - also included circus skills displays,
free running demonstrations, jujitsu workshops, plus Air, Sea
and Army demonstrations, a climbing tower, plus rowing and fitness
tests in addition to a bouncy castle and a barbecue.
Other
groups who took part included Highbridge's Shed Youth Café,
who offered high-tech games and entertainment, plus Highbridge
Dreamscheme, Burnham Lions, The Bay Dancers, BARB and the Nathan
Edwards Tennis Academy.
Cllr
Peter Burridge-Clayton, who is among the organising team, told
Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The event this year was a great success.
After a slow start, the gardens were quite full by 2pm and everybody
was having a very enjoyable time."
"The
bands were excellent and several were asked to attend other festivals.
It was a great turnout and a very pleasing sight to see so many
young people taking an interest."
"We
had more forms of entertainment and demonstrations this year and
increasing interest from many groups. It really seems to be going
from strength to strength and the Youth Town Council and I personally
would like to thank all those that
attended and all those that took part."
"It is getting increasingly difficult to find a date that
doesn't clash with some major event but work is already underway
to find a date for next year. A follow-up meeting is planned fairly
soon and further details on how to get involved with next year's
event will be published shortly."
