The driver of a van has been arrested after allegedly failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving a cyclist which blocked the A38 between Highbridge and Bridgwater on Sunday (October 30th).

Burnham police shut the busy route through Pawlett, as pictured, following the accident in which a cyclist was knocked off his bike by the vehicle and suffered head and neck injuries.

He added: "The cyclist suffered head and neck injuries after being knocked off his bike and is in a stable condition in hospital."

"Two witnesses to the accident have come forward and our investigations are ongoing."

Police put a diversion route in place while they were at the scene.
