A section of the A38 on the outskirts of Highbridge was sealed off to traffic on Monday evening (July 25th) after emergency services were called to help a man in a distressed state on a rooftop.

Police, ambulances and three fire engines from Burnham and Bridgwater attended the incident in Main Road just before 7pm.

Traffic from the Bridgwater direction was directed off the A38 along Alstone Lane while motorists travelling from Burnham were diverted along Market Street.

The man was eventually coaxed down by the fire brigade and was unhurt.
