It's a flying start to the New Year for Burnham-On-Sea air cadets!

Air cadets from Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge's 290 Squadron took to the skies this week during a visit to Colerne Airfield near Bath.

The cadets - aged between 14 and 17 - had the opportunity to take the controls of the RAF's primary training aircraft.

They learned how easy it is to fly as well experiencing the thrill of aerobatics, and later made a visit to the air traffic control team.

It was the first flying experience for three cadets - Cameron Service, 14, Matt Way, 14 and Elliott Bartlett, 15.

Elliott said afterwards: "What an amazing experience, I've only ever been on a commercial airliner so flying upside down was definitely a lot different! I can’t wait for the next trip."

The Air Experience Flight (AEF) provides the opportunity for cadets to learn the theory behind the principals of flight and also experience hands-on practical flight for 30 minutes.
