Police search for arsonists after 2.45am blaze at Highbridge home

Burnham-On-Sea police have today (Wednesday) confirmed that they are treating an early morning blaze at this home in Highbridge as suspected arson.

Police spokeswoman Cath Foster told "Police are appealing for witnesses and information following an arson at a home on the Poplar Estate, which occurred at around 2.45am on Tuesday December 27th."

"The cause of the fire is not known at this time, however it is currently under investigation and is being treated as deliberate ignition."

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Three fire engines from Burnham and Bridgwater were sent to the property at 2.51am, as first reported by here.

"On their arrival, crews found this was a vacant semi-detached property with smoke issuing from the rear of the first floor," a fire spokesman told

Crews extinguished the fire using two hose reel jets and four breathing apparatus. There was severe damage to a bedroom, moderate damage to the living room and the whole property was smoke damaged. There was also smoke damage in the neighbouring property.
