Berrow couple’s party raises a tea-rrific £2,100 for cancer charity!

Over £2,000 was raised for a local cancer charity when a Berrow couple held a successful tea party on Saturday (June 18th).

For a fourth year, Steve and Hilary Cox (pictured) served up hundreds of teas to the public at their home in Brent Road to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Hilary told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had a brilliant day and managed to raise an amazing £2,100!”

She added: “£800 worth of raffle tickets were sold – I think because the prizes were so good, and we made £600 on cream teas. The homemade cakes made £300 and our plant stall sold a massive £380 worth of plants.”

“A huge thank you goes to all our friends, neighbours and family who helped on the day, and to everyone who came along and supported us including the local businesses who so kindly donated prizes for our raffle.”

She added: “We were so lucky with the weather – not a drop of rain fell between 2-5pm, which was perfect and meant our extra covered area wasn’t needed after all.”

“I think that the furthest anyone travelled to come especially for a cream tea was from Newlyn in Cornwall, and we had many returning guests from previous years.”

“We really hope to have been the biggest cream tea in the country this year, but we have to wait until the end of July to find out as Marie Curie run their tea party campaign until then.”
