Distressed woman rescued from mud on Brean beach

Burnham-On-Sea Police, Coastguards, hovercrafts and lifeboats were put on alert on Monday afternoon (January 10th) after a distressed woman was spotted in difficulty in mud on Brean beach.

The middle-aged woman was spotted by police in a distressed state walking towards the sea at 4.35pm, almost 150 metres from the beach near Berrow Church.

Burnham Coastguard Steve Bird told "Several police officers at the scene managed to drag the lady safely back from the mud and she was placed on a stretcher before being taken away by ambulance for treatment."

The hovercraft and lifeboats were stood down en route to the scene.
