Volunteers and supporters of Burnham-On-Sea’s tourist information centre were thanked for their help during a special end-of-season party on Thursday night (November 3rd).

More than 60 people, including Burnham’s Mayor and Mayoress, attended the social function at the Oak Tree Arena.

Each of the volunteers from BIARS (Burnham Information and Rescue Support) who run the centre were presented with a certificate of appreciation following a busy first season for the seafront centre since its opening in April.

The evening consisted of skittles, a meal, a raffle, and a fundraising auction.

BIARS President Neville Jones told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The event was a great opportunity to thank everyone for their part in making the centre such a success.”

“We are very appreciative of our volunteers and wanted to thank them after a very busy summer.”

Bill and Debbie Hancock from the Oaktree Arena and those who provided raffle and auction items were also thanked for their support.

BIARS has attracted almost 60,000 visitors since taking over the facilities from Sedgemoor District Council in April.

Its team of more than 30 volunteers provide tourist and community information while also offering sea safety advice and merchandise from BARB (Burnham Area Rescue Boat) and Burnham’s Coastguard Association. New volunteers are welcome to join the centre’s friendly team by calling in at the centre or contacting the group here.
