swaps 60th birthday gifts for donations to good causes
A man from Mark, near Burnham, has made a generous donation
to two local good causes this week after declining presents at
his 60th birthday celebration in favour of charity donations instead.
Tony Buncombe received £600 from friends and family members
at a special party held in Mark Village Hall, with the proceeds
being split between Burnham rescue hovercraft charity BARB and
the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.
"I had a fantastic party with around 80 relatives and friends.
Rather than accepting presents, I decided to put out a charity
collection box for these two excellent local causes," Tony
"Everyone was very happy to support them. Both charities
do a wonderful job - you hope you never need them, but it's reassuring
that they are there."
