A man from Mark, near Burnham, has made a generous donation to two local good causes this week after declining presents at his 60th birthday celebration in favour of charity donations instead.

Tony Buncombe received £600 from friends and family members at a special party held in Mark Village Hall, with the proceeds being split between Burnham rescue hovercraft charity BARB and the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

“I had a fantastic party with around 80 relatives and friends. Rather than accepting presents, I decided to put out a charity collection box for these two excellent local causes,” Tony told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Everyone was very happy to support them. Both charities do a wonderful job – you hope you never need them, but it’s reassuring that they are there.”

Tony and his wife Janet are pictured handing their donation to crewmembers at BARB (Burnham Area Rescue Boat) this week
