Dozens of Burnham-On-Sea residents were presented with awards when the town’s annual Britain In Bloom ceremony was held on Saturday evening (October 29th).

Almost 100 residents and business owners crowded into the town council chambers for the annual presentation night, where awards were given to those who helped brighten up the town with floral displays over the summer.

The evening began with Mayor Michael Clarke being presented with a Britain In Bloom Silver award on behalf of the town by Sedgemoor District Council Chairman Gill Slocombe and Burnham In Bloom organisers Dave Perrett and Richard Young.

The award was won by the town in the Sergeant Cup, which saw Burnham competing against numerous mid-sized towns across the South West region.

The Mayor told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The standard of entries on show across the town was superb this year and I thank everyone who took part. We were all a little disappointed that we didn’t improve on the silver gilt award this year, but we will try again next year.”

Cllr Slocombe added: “Burnham In Bloom is a wonderful competition and the standard here was incredibly high again this year. The displays really enhance the town and the competition is something we mustn’t lose.”

John Alexander, leader of Burnham Dreamscheme, who collected the Burnham In Bloom Community Shield and Mayor’s Trophy on behalf of the group, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been a great evening – I am very happy that our group has been recognised in this way.”
