Peter Lloyd and Carl Sorenson are on course to become the first team to win Brean’s Rally for three years in a row.

The speedy duo are leading the rally at the end of Saturday’s first day of racing at Brean Leisure Park in their Subaru Impreza, pictured above.

Six of the weekend’s 12 stages was completed on Saturday and the duo have opened up a huge 47 second margin over second-placed David Kynaston and Chris Beare in their Audi A3.

In third place is the Impreza of Steve and Yvonne Furzeland a further 26 seconds behind.

Conditions were overcast but mostly dry for Saturday’s action. However, a total of 26 cars fell by the wayside, with many of the retirements due to mechanical failures.

Eleven of the competitors are working to repair their vehicles overnight in a bid to make the start again for Sunday’s racing, which resumes at 10am.

Brean Leisure Park is hosting the 15th annual K&R Mitsubishi Stages Rally on Saturday and Sunday (January 22nd and 23rd). The rally is this year supporting Help for Heroes and local charity Highbridge Dreamscheme. Entry is £20 per car.
