Brent
Knoll Primary School marked its 150th anniversary on Friday (June
17th) with a day of celebrations.
Youngsters
at the school held a mass balloon launch, took part in a musical
performance, held a school history exhibition and unveiled a commemorative
mosaic.
Jo
MacGregor from the school's PTA, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "It
was a wonderful day despite some very wet weather, but spirits
were not dampened."
"The
pupils went up to Brent Knoll Church and performed a musical presentation
which included songs from different eras during the past 150 years
including the 1940s and 70s. They put on a superb performance
of 'Scarborough Fair' and 'Oh we do like to be beside the seaside'."
"A
new mosaic that has been made by the children to especially celebrate
the anniversary was unveiled by the school's former headteacher
Shirley Endall. And
the PTA presented the school with two brand new computerised projectors
for the both Key Stage 1 and 2."
One
of the key parts of the celebration was the mass launch of 150
balloons at the start of a race. The blue and gold balloons were
launched in pouring rain to the sound of cheers from the youngsters.
In
the school hall, 150 years of history went on show with a fascinating
exhibition of past school records and log books. Tea and cakes
were also served by the pupils.
The
day ended with a commemorative leather bookmark being presented
to every pupil to take home as a lasting memento of the special
occasion.
