Dreamscheme leads community cake-making for elderly

Members of Highbridge Dreamscheme made dozens of cakes for
elderly residents in the town during their ongoing summer programme
of community work this week.
The
young people made over 50 cakes, scones and pastries as part of
an initiative to promote wellbeing among the sheltered housing
community of Highbridge.
The young people decided they wanted to do something to give
the elderly a gift and to help keep them safe.
The tasty treats were hand-delivered to them by the young people
during a large coffee morning attended by local residents at the
community building in Trowbridge Close.
Members of the Highbridge Dreamscheme were also joined by PCSO
Claire Finch who gave a talk to the group regarding Bogus Callers
and being safe in their homes.
The
young people finished the coffee morning by giving out Bogus Caller
Awareness packs.
One of the group's leaders, Trish Hart, told Burnham-On-Sea.com:
"It was a fun project and the young people took great care
in making the cakes so that they were a special treat for those
that attended the coffee morning."
"The residents described the cakes as 'wonderful' and gave
them a score of 11/10, adding that it was great to see how pleased
the young people were with their comments and how proud they were
of their involvement in the initiative."
The youngsters are earning points for a trip to Paignton Zoo
later this month.
