Burnham-On-Sea carnival organisers issue plea for more collectors

-

Organisers of this year’s Highbridge and Burnham Carnival have issued a plea for volunteers to come forward to help with collections on the night.

The popular event, which this year will be held on Monday November 7th, needs more collectors to ensure it remains financially viable.

Andrew Bryant, from Burnham Lions, which oversees the collections, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Each year, the costs of running the event increase and are currently £25,000. The revenue from the collections remains about the same, depending on the weather which means, in real terms, that the income is reducing – putting its future in danger.”

“Experience tells us the more collectors we have the more money we collect. So if any readers can spare four hours of your time on carnival night to join the team of collectors, it would help to ensure the continuation of this spectacular community
event.”

He added that in addition to individual collectors, the group needs more collection floats and any groups or organisations interested should also get in contact.

The Highbridge and Burnham Carnival has collected £100,000 over the past ten years alone to help local charities.

To help this year’s carnival, contact Andrew Bryant on 01278 792534 or by email at here or John Hodgson on 01278 782527 or by email here.

Andrew added: “Carnival is one of the greatest free shows on earth, bringing joy and excitement to thousands of people and financial assistance to local groups. It is organised by a small, dedicated team who support the hard work, inspiration and motivation of the Carnival Clubs to bring you this great night every year.”
