carnival halted for 20 minutes after cart hits road sign
Burnham-On-Sea's
carnival came to a halt for more than 20 minutes during the middle
of Monday's procession after a cart collided with a roadside sign.
As
pictured here, Marina Sydenham's entry, Twilight Express, hit
a double-sided No Entry / Give Way sign outside the Somerset and
Dorset pub shortly after 9.30pm.
A
girl performing on the cart suffered minor injuries and had to
be taken off whilst the crew worked to free the stuck cart.
Eyewitness
Stuart Browning told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "The girl seemed
to hurt her leg when the cart hit the sign."
"She burst into tears before being taken off by
some of the cart's helpers but fortunately was not badly hurt."
The
cart's lights were turned off as a safety precaution, as pictured,
and the crew then spent 20 minutes towing the cart away from the
lamp post before continuing into Marine Drive.
The
cart attracted loud cheers from the crowd of spectators when it
was successfully moved. It went on to win the award for best juvenile
feature on the night - click
