Over 100 people from carnival clubs across Somerset gathered for Burnham-On-Sea’s annual carnival presentation ceremony on Saturday night (January 15th).

The event, held at Laburnum House in West Huntspill, saw a total of 44 trophies and cups handed to the winners of last November’s procession by Carnival Queen Anna Kevan and Carnival Chairman Phil New.

Gremlins Carnival Club received the main trophy, the Phil Harris Memorial Bowl, for the best entry in the entire Burnham procession after their stunning cart ‘Wild Bill’s Runaway Train’ impressed the judges.

Members of Burnham’s Hillview Carnival Club, pictured above, also received an armful of awards for their cart ‘The Show’, including the silverware for the best local entry.

The trophies for the Best Tableaux entries went to Huckyduck CC for their cart ‘Spirit of The Blitz’ while Gremlins also ran away with the open feature trophy.

Jan Paul, Burnham carnival’s secretary, pictured right, was awarded a special trophy, the Ben Travers Challenge Cup, for showing “the true spirit of carnival” by arranging last-minute marshalls and completing admin for the popular event.

Phil told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Saturday’s presentation night was a great event when clubs from across Somerset came together to look back at a super carnival in Highbridge and Burnham. We’re all looking forwards to this November’s 2011 carnival.”
