Newly-refurbished Burnham-On-Sea Community Centre to open

-

Burnham-On-Sea Community Centre will be holding an open day on Saturday July 9th when its newly-refurbished facilities will be officially opened after a major £150,000 project.

The centre in Berrow Road has been given a new lease of life with a number of improvements, including enhancements to the kitchens, toilets and the creation of a new community hub.

The special open day will be held from 1pm-4pm and will include visits by Burnham and Highbridge’s Mayor and Mayoress, Michael and Maria Clarke, and Sedgemoor District Council’s Chairman, Cllr Gill Slocombe.

Many of the fundraisers who gave money to the project – such as Burnham Model Railway Club (pictured above) and Viridor’s Landfill Communities Fund – will be in attendance.

Ken Hindle, Chairman of Burnham and Highbridge Community Association, which runs the centre, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re delighted that the changes have all been completed at the newly-refurbished centre.”

“This building is the centre of the community for many people in Burnham. It is home to 60 groups, attracting more than 1,500 visitors every month.”

The centre dates back to 1837 and is currently used by groups whose subject matter ranges from arts and crafts to exercise and faith groups.
