Date is set for trial of former Burnham Scout leader on sex charges

A former Burnham-On-Sea scout leader is to face trial in January accused of committing a string of sex offences.

David Burland denies 33 charges including indecent assault, sexual activity with a child, indecency and exposure.

A pre-trial hearing was held this week ahead of the trial starting on January 23rd.

The charges - which relate to children under the age of 16 - are alleged to have taken place between 1987 and 2010.

The Scout Association said Mr Burland was suspended from any form of contact with the movement as soon as the allegations were reported. He had been involved in the Scout movement since the 1990s.
