Burnham youth
centre's roof appeal boosted by town's Dreamscheme
Hundreds
of pounds was raised for the repair of Burnham-On-Sea's Youth
Centre roof on Saturday (October 15th) when youngsters held a
fundraising event at a supermarket in the town.
Members of Burnham Dreamscheme spent several hours at the Tesco
store in Ben Travers Way, packing shopping bags in return for
donations.
Leader John Alexander said the event had been well supported
and added that the proceeds are going towards the cost of repairing
the roof at the Burnham Area Youth (BAY) Centre in Cassis Close.
He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "We managed to collect over
£350, which is a fantastic result! A big well done goes
to everybody who helped and supported us."
Built
in 1966, the BAY Centre's roof is experiencing leaks during heavy
rain and the team who run it are therefore trying to raise £33,000
to replace it.
Meanwhile, members of Burnham Dreamscheme will be busy over the
October half-term holiday carrying out a 'Treat no Trick' initiative
when the youngsters will be calling on households on 26th October
delivering sweets to residents. On Sunday 30th October they will
be having a Halloween-themed party for Dreamscheme members, at
the BAY Centre, from 4pm until 8pm.
