Two Burnham-On-Sea residents have been arrested after police drugs raids in the town over the past week.

The men, both aged 47, were arrested after separate, unconnected raids in Oxford Street and Avebury Close.

Inspector Roger Tolley from Burnham Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “In the first incident, an Oxford Street man was stop-checked on suspicion of being involved in drugs misuse.”

“He was searched and found to be in possession of substances believed to be controlled Class B drugs and a pair of electronic scales.”

“A substantial amount of money was seized and when his property was searched, a number of items believed to have been stolen were found.”

In a second police investigation at Avebury Close, Burnham Police found a number of cannabis plants.

Inspector Tolley added: “Following community intelligence about possible misuse of drugs, we searched the premises in Avebury Close and found 22 suspected cannabis plants which were in various stages of maturity. A 47 year-old was arrested and cautioned on suspicion of cultivating the plants.”
