Weapons and £5k of drugs seized by Burnham and Highbridge police

-

Swords, knives, imitation guns and around £5,000 of drugs were seized by police in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge during a series of drugs raids on Friday (March 4th).

Following intelligence from the local community, officers in Highbridge carried out two misuse of drugs act warrants and made several arrests.

The first warrant was executed in Market Street (pictured right) where three youths were arrested and later bailed for possession of cannabis offences.

A thorough search of the address produced a significant quantity of cocaine, cannabis and a large amount of cash.

“Also seized were various imitation firearms including hand guns, shot guns and gas-powered weapons along with swords, knives and nun chucks,” Sgt Ian Kennett told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

PC Ryan Dinham is currently investigating the offences and two local men who live at the address were arrested in connection with drug supply offences.

A second drugs warrant at an address on Burnham’s seafront also took place on Friday evening.

“A significant amount of cannabis was seized there, along with a substantial amount of cash. A local man has been arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and is currently on bail.”

Sgt Ian Kennett added: “At a very conservative estimate we have taken well over £5,000 worth of drugs off our streets today, together with a number of dangerous weapons and are determined to make our streets safer.”

PC Dinham added that drug dealing in Burnham and Highbridge would not be tolerated.

“Deal in our town and we will get to know about it and you can guarantee to expect us at your door at any time of the week, day or night,” he said.

He thanked the local community for their continued support.

Ten people have been arrested in Burnham-On-Sea as part of the police’s Operation Globe operation to disrupt drug production and supply since the start of the year.
