Police investigate election board 'vandalism' in Burnham-On-Sea

Police have been called in to investigate who damaged more than 20 election boards in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge over the weekend.

Frustrated Burnham and Highbridge Liberal Democrats say their boards have been vandalised, with many broken or missing.

Burnham Lib Dem candidate Joe Leach, pictured with one of the damaged boards, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Over 20 of our boards have either been stolen or vandalised in Burnham and Highbridge in recent days, thankfully with no damage to owners homes. Five 'superboards' have also been stolen from fences and hedges, all of which had been screwed in, but have been literally ripped from their holdings."

He added: "I am incredibly disappointed by these mindless acts of theft and destruction. Whilst most boards have been left alone, a few in certain areas have been constantly attacked."

"It isn't fair, it isn't funny and it isn't clever - people have an absolute right to display their support during the four weeks of an election without having to worry if it will end up snapped or missing. I urge those who have done it to please stop."

He confirmed that the matter has been referred to Burnham Police who are now investigating.
