proposed Burnham-On-Sea to Wales ferry service
of Burnham-On-Sea.com have mostly given their support to proposals
for a major new Bristol Channel ferry service to serve Burnham-On-Sea.
We first reported this week
that entrepreneur Chris Marrow wants to launch the Severn Link
ferry operation between Burnham-On-Sea, Minehead, Ilfracombe,
Swansea and Penarth.
Burnham-On-Sea.com invited your views
on the plans and here is a selection of those submitted:
B Martin: "If the cost of the trip is favourable,
an exellent idea."
B Mould: "We would welcome the ferry. That's great
news - we would use it often."
J Shannon: "We think this is a wonderful idea, and
would be very pleased to take advantage of the ferry. Bring it
G Ellis: "I would certainly use the ferry to travel
to Wales and to Devon and even Minehead. We already have many
visitors from Wales come to Burnham by coach and I am sure it
would encourage many more to use this option as well."
J Burman: "I think it is a fantastic idea and would
definitely use it."
P Hailing: "Yes, me and the wife and all the visitors
we have are looking forwards to the chance of using the ferry
to go to Wales for a day out. Hope it starts soon."
S Stone: "This is great news about the proposed new
ferry service and I really pray it will happen. I frequently go
to Cardiff by train from Burnham. We have all been longing to
see a ferry service happen and I am sure it would be a tremendous
asset from the point of view of tourism and commerce. Because
it is so costly to park in Cardiff, I am certain that this service
would be greatly appreciated. And, of course, Penarth is so close
to Cardiff, but in itself a very attractive resort. Please go
ahead with the plans."
D Preston: "Given the Somerset coast, I suggest a
hovercraft service would be more practical."
J Crocker: "Living in West Somerset I would be more
likely to use one from Minehead. It always seems crazy to drive
all the way up to the Severn Bridge and then back down the Welsh
side to get to Cardiff for example. The Bristol Channel tidal
regime makes services at regular times difficult, but there were
ferries in the past. Good luck!"
P Murrell: "Does Mr Marrow really expect anyone to
have any credibility in him after the last Severn Link fiasco?"
A Maundrell: "I like the proposals and would be interested
in using the ferry. Good luck to your venture."
