Burnham-On-Sea fire crews encounter busy day of call-outs

Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea experienced a busy day of call-outs on Sunday (February 6th) after being called to several incidents.

Burnham firefighters were among ten crews called out on Sunday to help fight a major thatch house fire at East Coker, near Yeovil.

The incident is thought to have been started by a chimney fire. The roof was completely damaged and the remainder of the upper floor and ground floors were severely damaged.

Separately, a Burnham crew was called to help Bridgwater Fire Brigade tackle a small blaze at a house in Cannington at 10.30am after a washing machine caught fire. Crews adminstered oxygen to an elderly man, who had suffered smoke inhalation. The blaze was extinguished with buckets of water and a stirrup pump. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical, with damage said to be minimal.

The Burnham crews were called out again at 6.45pm to reports of large flames being spotted at a farm in Brent Road, Berrow. One fire engine attended and found the incident was fortunately a controlled fire.
