GCSE records smashed by King Alfred School Students

-

GCSE students at Highbridge’s King Alfred School were celebrating this morning (Thursday, August 25th) after achieving a fantastic set of results.

68% of students managed to achieve the headline figure of 5 or more GCSE grades at C grade or above, including English and Maths.

This compares with a figure of 49% in 2010, a stunning increase of 19%. The highest ever results achieved before this year was 51% in 2009.

There were some tremendous individual results with 5 students achieving ten or more of the highest grades A*/As (GCSE) and/or Distinction/Distinction* (BTEC/OCR): Bethany Olding (5A*s/1D*/5As), Rebecca Plummer (5A*s/6As), Ashley Matthews (2A*s/1D*/6As/1D), Buffy Beck (2A*s/8As) and Jackie Yip (2A*s/8As).

In addition, Evie Farnham (9A*/As), Alivia Redman (6A*/As and 2D*/Ds), Hannah
Smith (7A*/As and 2 D*/Ds), Monty Parrott (8A*/As) and Charlotte Bishop (7A*/As and 1D*/D) also achieved excellent results.

Headteacher Andy Owen told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted with these brilliant results which reflect the hard work and commitment of students, staff and parents. Without question this is an outstanding achievement for King Alfred’s and our partner primary schools that play such an important role in the education of our young people.”

The Chair of Governors, Mrs Cheryl Burnett added: “The Governing Body are
extremely pleased with the positive changes being made at the school. These
impressive GCSE results show how the King Alfred School is moving rapidly
forward. Well done everyone!”
