‘Royal’ visitor promotes Alice-themed Burnham-On-Sea arts festival

-

Residents of two local nursing homes welcomed a ‘royal’ visitor this week when members of Highbridge and Burnham Artists (HaBA) called in to promote their upcoming arts festival.

Beaufort House Residential Home in Burnham-On-Sea and Holywell Nursing Home in Brent Knoll were visited by The King of Hearts while they made flower displays for this month’s Highbridge and Burnham Artists Arts Festival, which this year has the theme of ‘Alice in Apex Park’.

The colourful costume has been designed for the festival by HaBa member David Filce and was worn by Verity Trevor-Morgan, as pictured here.

“The festival takes place on 15th, 16th and 17th July and will let visitors meet the colourful characters of this well-loved story,” HaBa’s Sue Hammond-Lovatt told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We’ll also have a sculpture trail around the lakes and there will also be family workshops including mask making, mad hat making and willow.”

“There will also be a number of competitions to enter, a drumming workshop and live music. The sculpture that will be on show has been produced by local schools, youth clubs, residential homes and some of the artists themselves.”

“If that is not enough there will be art and craft exhibitions and visits from Somerset Wildlife Trust, RSPB, BARB and others. The event will be rounded off with a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on the Sunday afternoon.”

The event is set to build on the success of previous events held along the River Brue in 2008 and 2009 and last year’s event at the park.
