Over 200 runners will take part in Burnham-On-Sea’s annual Half Marathon tomorrow (Sunday, October 2nd), whose route has had to be changed due to roadworks in Berrow Road.
Organisers from Burnham Harriers running club are pleased with the number of entries, and say late entries will be accepted right up until the final hour before Sunday’s event.
The starting gun will be fired at 11am at Burnham’s BASC Ground, signalling the start of the 13-mile run.
The runners will leave the BASC ground and move along Love Lane and Queen’s Drive, before turning left along the A38 towards Brent Knoll and then on to East Brent, Lympsham, Wick Road and Red Road, before returning to Burnham via Berrow Road – with a detour along Saxondale Avenue and Links Gardens to avoid the area where emergency sewer repairs are ongoing.
Burnham Harriers Club Secretary Brian Beale, who oversees the event, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’ll be introducing extra marshalls along the diversion route to ensure it’s as safe as possible for everyone.”
He added: “This weekend’s hot weather has also meant we’ve introduced extra drinking facilities, with three water stations and additional water carriers.”
“We’ve had a lot of interest from local runners, with 220 people registered, and a further 80 or so who are considering making late entries.”
