Is this really October? Burnham-On-Sea swelters in heatwave

-

Burnham-On-Sea sizzled in temperatures hotter than Ibiza and Majorca on Saturday and Sunday (October 1st and 2nd) with forecasters promising the Indian Summer is set to last for at least a couple of days.

Shade temperatures in Burnham reached 27°C (80.6°F) on Saturday and 28°C (82.4°F) on Sunday, while in the sunshine the thermometer nudged towards 30°C (86°F) on the town’s seafront on both days, as pictured above.

Beaches in Burnham were considerably busier than usual and Sedgemoor District Council brought back its beach wardens in Burnham and Berrow despite laying them off early two weeks ago, as we reported here.

The unseasonal heatwave also provided a boost to some local businesses.

Sonya Fudge from the Bay View Cafe on The Esplanade told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Saturday was our busiest October day on record. We ordered in extra supplies of ice cream and most of that has been sold.”

More hot weather is forecast for Burnham on Monday, but then temperatures start to fall off on Tuesday and rain is due to arrive mid-week.
