Members of Burnham-On-Sea’s Inner Wheel Club were among 180 ladies from across the region who took part in a fundraising ride on the Weston Ferris Wheel on Sunday (May 15th).

The ladies, who are all members of the Inner Wheel’s District 20, covering Somerset and parts of Wiltshire and Dorset, headed to the wheel to promote the organisation and their charity of the year, The National Osteoporosis Society.

It all came about after the Inner Wheel’s President for Great Britain and Ireland, Pam McConnell, invited fellow members to support her fundraising push.

The Chairman of District 20, Angie Horne, wanted local members to do something special – and the idea of the ‘Inner Wheel Ladies riding The Weston Wheel’ sprung to mind.

The ladies enjoyed meeting friends from their own and neighbouring clubs whilst raising money for charity during Sunday’s event.

Burnham Inner Wheel member Sandra Moon told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a chilly morning but that didn’t dampen our spirits. Everyone went up on the wheel – even some who were a bit dubious – and everyone enjoyed themselves.”

“We were very pleased to welcome the Association’s President Pam O’Connell to our gathering. It was a most successful and well supported event.”

Inner Wheel was founded over 80 years ago by Margarette Golding, the wife of a Manchester Rotarian and has grown to become one of the largest female organisations in the world, raising money for local, national and international charities.
