Overturned kayaker suffering from hypothermia air-lifted from sea

-

An overturned kayaker suffering from hypothermia was air-lifted from the sea near Brean Down on Thursday afternoon (June 30th).

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were called to Brean at 3pm to conduct a search for the kayak, with two people onboard, which was reported to be drifting in difficulty near the island of Steep Holm.

A spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Weston Coastguards and lifeboats were also involved in the search and located the kayak.”

“A man was winched up out of the water and onto the RAF rescue helicopter before being flown to hospital for treatment for hypothermia.”

“His partner, who was also on the kayak, was brought back to the shore onboard a Weston lifeboat safe and well.”
