M5 motorway fully re-opened after fatal accident near Taunton

-

The M5 motorway has re-opened in both directions this evening (Sunday, November 6th) following a two-day closure between junctions 24 at Bridgwater and 25 at Taunton after a serious accident on Friday night.

Seven people were killed and 51 were injured in the crash on Friday evening.

All of the burnt vehicles were removed from the scene by Sunday morning and extensive repairs were carried out to the road surface and barriers throughout the day, allowing the carriageways to open.

Incident commander Assistant Chief Constable Anthony Bangham said: “We thank everyone for their support and patience and this extremely difficult time.”

He added: “Extensive work has been carried out to identify those people who died and families are being appointed family liaison officers to support them.”
