Who dung it? Residents kick up a stink over manure accident in Burnham-On-Sea

-

Residents in part of Burnham-On-Sea kicked up a stink on Thursday (February 24th) after several tonnes of manure was accidentally spilt across along a busy road junction.

Somerset County Council’s highways team was called to the junction of Berrow Road and Allandale Road to clear away a passing farm vehicle lost part of its load.

Richard Greene from the council’s highways team told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We got a call at 2pm requesting an immediate clear-up.”

“We cleared the pavement to enable pedestrian access and suggested a road sweeper was brought in to complete the job.”

He added: “It’s unclear how the mess got there in the first place.”

The question on local residents’ minds was ‘who dung it?’

One resident, who asked not to be named, said: “There was a terrible smell throughout the day and the junction into Rectory Road was very slippery, making it quite dangerous for motorists. Fortunately, the council acted very quickly to clear up the mess.”
