‘Disappointed’ martial arts gala organiser cancels Brent Knoll event

-

A martial arts gala which was set to be held in Brent Knoll later this month to raise money for the Royal Marines has had to be cancelled.

As first reported by Burnham-On-Sea.com last month, scores of martial arts clubs from across the region had been invited to take part in the high-kicking event at Sanders Garden World on Saturday February 26th in aid of 40 Commando Royal Marines.

However, Allan Roberts, who was overseeing the event and is a former grenadier guard, explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com on Wednesday (February 9th) that poor support is behind his decision.

“The gala has unfortunately been cancelled this week, mainly due to a lack of public support. We set up an online donations page and sent the details to over 300 local businesses and local people, but did not receive one donation,” he said.

“I realise that martial arts is not everyone’s cup of tea, but this was for the Marines’ families so I am disappointed.”

“It’s the only show I have ever had to cancel, but I would like to thank the four martial arts groups who had committed to attending, as well as the Wrinkly Rappers and the Marine Cadets who were also due to appear at it.”
