Burnham-On-Sea police were kept busy over the New Year holiday weekend with more than 70 incidents.

Inspector Roger Tolley of Burnham Police told Burnham-On-Sea.com that in the 48 hours covering Friday (December 31st) and Saturday (January 1st), they received 71 calls.

“It was a very busy New Year period. We received about double the number of calls we’d usually expect,” he said.

“There were a wide range of incidents, from domestic assaults and vandalism, to an attempted burglary at Alstone, but the atmosphere in Burnham town centre was mostly good-spirited,” he added.

“We are also investigating five thefts from vehicles and nine further incidents of criminal damage to vehicles where wing mirrors have been removed or damaged.”

Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported last week that police are investigating a spate of incidents against vehicles and have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.
